Professor Whitman's Introduction to Life

Monday morning heralded the time change, which didn't really effect any of us. It is to be understood that us implies not only myself and Ryan, but his younger brother David, who also sleeps in the same room. We had breakfast and took the morning leisurely. We made our way down to downtown San Diego. We arrived at 12:19, parked Saoirse (my Camry), took my longboards form the trunk (where they generally reside) and walked through Seaport Village to the boardwalk along the harbour. Ryan had never really boarded before and was to begin with very uneasy, however he surmounted the challenge and by the time we got to the Coast Guard Station near the airport, he was sure of his feet and had his "sea legs". En Route we were subjected to the verbal abuse of some passers by. Firstly, a disheveled old man insisted we ought to "Skate to Hell". Only seconds thereafter a lady in a black SUV remarked in a harsh voice we should "Go get a job!". We took these with a grain of salt though and continued our ride uninhibited.
For lunch we stopped at the Greek restaurant in Seaport Village and had a gyro each, which were very tasty after a long ride. We had previously stored the long boards and then began our search/stroll through the area in search of the tobacco shop I had visited there with my father a very very long time ago, the last time I had the pleasure to visit San Diego. The "Capitan Hunt Tobacconist" was found expediently and an ounce of "Indian Pudding" purchased.
There after we went to Old Town San Diego, seizing the day as we went. Old Town has a Wild West feel to it, and our expedition there was delightful. We discovered the wonders of the "Temecula Olive Oil Company" who specialize in flavored olives and the like. We degustated a plethora of olive oils and salts, and felt it was necessary to live in the moment and purchase some flavored salt, namely the "Fiery Hot Salt". Next was the "Rootbeer & Jerky Emporium" where we acquired 6 bottles of microbrewed Rootbeers for later degustation. As the Gloriously brazen California Sun began to sink beneath the waves of the sapphire Pacific we return back to home base, filled with the sensation of having lived in the moment, and having seized the day. The night was spent with laughter, talk and an episode of "Community" We slept a deep slumber with dreams of what the morrow would bring.
